The Exoneree Network partnered with Who’s Got Morale, an organization that creates education and wellness programs for underserved communities, to host a half-day wellness retreat in March for members of our community. The retreat focused on healing, connection, and emotional wellness, creating a supportive environment where participants could step away from daily stressors and focus on personal restoration and community building.
A key component of the retreat was the incorporation of Indigenous restorative healing practices, which encouraged reflection, open dialogue, active listening, and mutual support among participants. These recurring healing circles create a space for community members to share experiences, process trauma, and build deeper connections in a respectful and empowering setting. The retreat emphasized collective healing, personal growth, and the importance of restoring trust, dignity, and belonging after experiences of wrongful conviction and long-term incarceration.
Throughout the day, participants engaged in wellness activities, peer-support discussions, and guided conversations centered on healing, resilience, and self-care. Although shorter than our traditional overnight weekend retreats, the event had a meaningful impact, offering members an opportunity to recharge, reflect, and strengthen their sense of community.
Partnerships like this continue to expand the Exoneree Network’s ability to provide holistic healing opportunities that support the emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being of our members.
“To be in community and being at this retreat is making me feel like I’m with family–having communication, respect, and being shown love and caring. This is what they show here.”
