Exoneree Network

The Exoneree Network, a program of the New England Innocence Project, empowers people and families to heal and rebuild after the trauma of long-term incarceration. We envision a world where every person impacted by the criminal legal system receives immediate, comprehensive support in freedom.

Founded by Those Directly Impacted

While every release and reunion after years of wrongful incarceration is joyous, it is seldom easy.

In 2020, three Massachusetts exonerees, who collectively spent nearly 100 years in prison for crimes they did not commit, founded the Exoneree Network to offer a welcoming community and support to individuals returning home and their families. Since then, the Exoneree Network has grown to serve nearly 100 members throughout New England and remains unique in its approach and impact.

“We’ve all gone through what they went through, so those people need to have someone to be there when they need it. Even if it’s just to cry, man, because life is just so frickin’ confusing to them, that’s OK too.”

what we do

Trauma-Informed Comprehensive Support

From housing to financial literacy and technological training, we provide end-to-end support to community members and their families.

Educate and Fight
for Change

We share our stories, show up in court, and fight for policy changes that uplift community members, restore dignity, and instill hope.

Led by Community with First-Hand Experience

We are proudly led by the experiences, perspectives, and voices of those directly impacted by the criminal legal system.

“the exoneree network - to me - is monumental… there's a relatability that we have with one another, that we don't have with others.”
