  • The New England Innocence Project is an independently funded nonprofit that relies on community support to make freedom possible. We receive no funding from the Innocence Project in New York or any other innocence organization.

  • Yes, the New England Innocence Project has earned a four-star rating from Charity Navigator, America’s largest independent evaluator of nonprofit organizations. This four-star rating is measured based on fiscal excellence and a commitment to accountability and transparency.

    We also have a Platinum seal from Candid, the highest tier awarded, which necessitates sharing measurable impact metrics, board demographics, and long-term strategy.

  • The New England Innocence Project is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. All donations are tax-deductible to the full extent allowable by law.

  • Donors giving online: A donation receipt will be sent to you at the email address you provide on the donation form. If you select a recurring donation, you will be sent an individual receipt each month when your donation is processed.

    Donors giving via mail or other methods: A donation receipt will be emailed or mailed to you as long as an address has been provided. 

    Please be sure to keep a copy of your receipt for tax purposes.

  • Yes, click the “dedicate this gift” checkbox on the donation form, then select either “in honor of” or “in memory of”. Finally, you can add a personal message and even notify someone about your gift by providing their email address.

  • Yes, we call our monthly donors “Sustainers of Freedom” because you provide the steady, reliable support that makes this work possible. Please go to our Donate Monthly page to set up a recurring gift.

  • Yes, the New England Innocence Project accepts gifts of stock and gifts made through an IRA.

    Gifts of stock or other publicly traded securities

    To make a gift of stock, please contact our development team, Sadie Blanco, at sadie@newenglandinnocence.org or call 617-249-4605 to receive our stock giving form, or upon making a stock transaction, so we can provide a tax receipt for your records once the stock has been received.

    To electronically transfer publicly traded securities, please notify the Development team at sadie@newenglandinnocence.org or call 617-249-4605 in advance and provide the following information:

    • Name of Donor

    • Name and Ticker of Security

    • Number of Shares

    • Purpose of Gift

    • Approximate Date of Expected Transfer
