Pro bono partners make a difference
Pro bono partners are vital to the New England Innocence Project’s work, and we are grateful for the many partners we have in the fight against injustice. We are proud to highlight three who have made a big difference in our community this past year.

The Vertex Foundation seeks to support organizations that align with the company’s aim to make a lasting impact on our communities and enable solutions to community challenges.
Vertex has sponsored an Equal Justice Fellow, Nina Thacker, with the New England Innocence Project since 2024, focused on wrongful convictions in New Hampshire.
Through this fellowship, Nina has been able to assist with filing NEIP’s first habeas petition in New Hampshire and engage in policy advocacy to remove the state’s time bar for pursuing motions for new trial, which, if passed, would have a significant impact on those wrongfully convicted in New Hampshire.
Latham & Watkins, LLP
Latham & Watkins has been a steadfast partner in NEIP’s work, including helping to free and overturn the wrongful conviction of NEIP’s first female client, Nancy Wagner, in 2023, and working with us on a wrongful conviction case today where our client has already spent 17 years in prison for a crime she did not commit. Our partners at Latham always bring skill and dedication to the work, and we are grateful for their continued support.

“It has been a privilege to contribute to our longstanding partnership and continued work with wonderful colleagues at NEIP. I am grateful for the opportunity to further the values of truth and justice. I look forward to continuing to collaborate with NEIP to serve our clients.”
Mintz
We are honored to work with Mintz to investigate a wrongful conviction case and are excited to continue building a lasting relationship to sustain our mission.
“Working with NEIP has been one of the most meaningful parts of my legal career. This work is a powerful reminder of why many of us went to law school in the first place, allowing us to use our skills to advocate for fairness, dignity, and justice for people whose voices might otherwise go unheard. The opportunity to contribute to work that can profoundly impact someone’s life has been incredibly rewarding.”
