Our work toward freedom, healing, and systemic change begins with people like you.

Today, we're proud to share our annual Impact Report, a reflection of what we've accomplished together over the last year and the lives you've helped transform.

Because of your support, the New England Innocence Project continues to fight for freedom through our three areas of focus: Liberating innocent people from prison, empowering individuals and families impacted by the trauma of long-term incarceration, and dismantling the systems that allow these injustices to happen.

As you’ll see in our Impact Report, in the last year:

>> We’ve celebrated two exonerations and have taken on more cases than ever before.

This year, we celebrated the exonerations of Edward Wright and Thomas Rosa, who together spent 75 years wrongfully incarcerated for crimes they did not commit. Their freedom is a testament to decades of persistence, legal advocacy, and the belief that every person deserves safety, healing, and dignity.

>> We supported 88 exonerees and family members and provided more than $83,000 in direct financial assistance through the Exoneree Network.

Freedom is only the beginning. From financial support to community-building and healing spaces, we're helping individuals and families rebuild their lives after years of unimaginable harm.

>> We’ve filed amicus briefs, testified in support of key legislation, and grown the movement through thought leadership and community mobilizing.

We are working to prevent future wrongful convictions by exposing systemic harm and advocating for change. This year, we filed 12 amicus briefs addressing issues including unreliable forensic evidence, official misconduct, racial bias, and eyewitness misidentification. We also advocated for elder and medical parole legislation that would give aging and seriously ill incarcerated people a meaningful opportunity to come home.

This impact is only possible because of our community of supporters. What began as a grassroots effort operating out of boxes in a Boston law office has grown into a thriving organization fighting for freedom and community care across New England.

Your support helps create pathways to freedom, strengthens communities impacted by incarceration, and advances the long-term work of dismantling the systems that perpetuate these harms. Together, we are building a future where dignity and safety belong to everyone.
