Miguel Roman

Miguel Roman was charged and convicted of the murder of his girlfriend, Carmen Lopez, in 1988. Roman was sentenced to 60 years in prison. Rosemarie Paine, a Harford attorney, partnered with the Connecticut Innocence Project to take on Roman’s case. DNA testing of two cigarette butts and strangulation wounds on the victim proved Roman’s innocence, and implicated the real perpetrator, who was a habitual sex offender. Roman was eventually exonerated after nearly 20 years in prison.
