Mark Reid

6 years
Mark Reid was arrested in 1997 for kidnapping and rape. A police officer targeted him as a suspect when he thought the victim’s description resembled Reid. The conviction was based largely on analysis of pubic hair found on the victim. The technician, Kiti Settachatgul, testified that although she could not say the hairs were identical, they were “Negroid.” When further DNA testing was conducted on the hair, it excluded Reid. Also, the hair was determined to have come from a Caucasian. This testing was conducted in 2003, and lead to Reid’s exoneration. He served nearly six years in prison.
